Shirley Taaca McCoy Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who
Shirley McCoy teaches in a dual classroom and owns a bookstore
KAILUA KONA, HI, August 8, 2011 /Publications PR News/ -- Shirley T. McCoy, Teacher for Kealakehe High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
With 33 years of professional experience, Ms. McCoy has spent the past 14 as a teacher for Kealakehe High School. Daily, she is responsible for developing curriculum and teaching a dual class. Driven by her desire to see her students succeed, Ms. McCoy infuses technology into her lessons to give students hands-on experiences that they will undoubtedly capitalize upon in their careers. Successful because of her passion for working with students, Ms. McCoy was inspired to enter her profession by her fourth-grade teacher.
In addition to her position as an educator, Ms. McCoy owns a bookstore, Kona Bay Books, with her husband. The store buys and sells gently used books, CDs, audio books on CD, and DVDs. Established in 2001, Kona Bay Books was relocated in 2006 to 74-5487 Kaiwi Street, Kona, Hawaii, 96740 in order to accommodate its collection of items, which now exceeds sixty thousand.
Ms. McCoy earned a master's degree in curriculum development from Heritage University in Washington. She is a member of the Kona Community Society and Alpha Delta Kappa Iota, and volunteers for The Salvation Army and as a tutor for a local school's athletic team. Looking forward, Ms. McCoy intends to continue teaching and working in her bookstore.
